P-01

Environmental monitoring

A zoned sampling plan across your production environment, sampled on a fixed rota and trended per point so drift is visible before it becomes a positive.

PROGRAMMES / P-01

In detail

Pathogens do not appear in finished product first. They appear in the environment, in a drain or on a frame or under a conveyor, and they get there weeks before anyone finds them in a swab of the product.

What the programme is

01 / 04

A written sampling plan covering your production environment, divided into zones by how close each surface sits to exposed product. Zone 1 is product contact. Zone 4 is the parts of the building nobody thinks about, which is where the interesting results usually come from.

We agree the points with you once, then sample them on a fixed rota. Because the points do not move, a result can be compared to the same point last month rather than to nothing at all.

Zone 1
Direct product contact: belts, blades, fillers, hoppers
Zone 2
Adjacent non-contact: frames, guards, control panels
Zone 3
Wider processing area: floors, drains, wheels, walls
Zone 4
Outside processing: corridors, welfare areas, external doors

Indicative zoning. Points, zones and intervals are agreed on site before the first round.

What gets sampled

02 / 04

Surface swabs for indicator organisms and for the pathogens relevant to your product, settle plates and active air sampling where the process is open, rinse water from clean-in-place systems, and personnel hygiene swabs where hands and gloves touch exposed product.

The parameter list is set by what you make. A ready-to-eat producer is monitoring for Listeria. A dry powder plant is monitoring for Salmonella and for moisture ingress. We build the list around the hazard, not around a template.

What you get back

03 / 04

Results reported per sampling point and per date, with the trend visible rather than buried. A single count means very little. The same point creeping upward across three visits means a great deal, and that is the thing a programme is designed to catch.

Where a result exceeds the action limit we agreed, you are told immediately rather than at the end of the reporting cycle, so corrective action and re-swabbing can happen while the line is still relevant.

A monitoring programme that only reports pass and fail is a monitoring programme that will find your problem late.

How it starts

04 / 04

A scoping visit to walk the site and agree the zones, the points and the intervals. We write the plan, you approve it, and the first round establishes the baseline everything afterwards is read against.

The plan is agreed once, then it runs. Nothing is decided retrospectively.
